A Special Night at the Ronald McDonald House

A Special Night at the Ronald McDonald House

This week was a special one for me. I had the opportunity to cook dinner at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, Alabama, a place that’s become very close to my heart. My daughter has been staying there while my precious twin grandchildren are in the NICU, so being able to give back in this way meant even more.

We cooked up a big pot of jambalaya for the families staying there that night, and the kitchen was filled with laughter, warmth, and good food. Watching everyone come together for a comforting meal reminded me how powerful a home-cooked dish can be when you’re far from home and facing tough days.

The Ronald McDonald House provides an incredible service to families with hospitalized children, giving them a place to stay, rest, and feel supported. Seeing firsthand how much love and care goes into that home, and how much it means to the families staying there, was truly humbling.

As I served dinner, I couldn’t help but think about all the parents who, like my daughter, spend long days in the hospital but still come “home” to a place that wraps them in comfort. Being able to give back, even in a small way, was deeply meaningful.

Preparing a meal for these families was my way of saying thank you to the staff and volunteers who do so much every single day. It was a beautiful reminder that kindness and community can bring light to even the hardest moments.

I am so grateful for the Ronald McDonald House and the comfort it provides to families like ours. If you ever have the opportunity to support their mission, I encourage you to do so. A simple meal, a donation, or a few hours of your time can truly make a difference.
